Whyn Irving Pelkey, 66, of New Britain, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday November 18, 2017 with his wife by his side. Whyn was born August 10, 1951 in Waterville, Maine to Marguerite (Irving) and the late Ralph H. Pelkey. Whyn attended H.C. Wilcox Technical High School in Meriden, where he became a tool and die maker by trade. He later earned his associate’s degree in Engineering from Capital Community College in Hartford. For many years, Whyn enjoyed numerous hobbies, particularly golfing, fishing, gardening, and quilting. He was always willing to help others. Whyn was generous with jokes, kind words, and a comforting hand. His smile, his laugh, and his optimistic spirit filled a room with light. Whyn is survived by his wife and best friend of 41 years, Patricia (Parsons) Pelkey; daughter and son-in-law Karen (Pelkey) Fuller and John; son Will Pelkey; grandson George Fuller; his birth mother Marguerite Mrowka; and sister Connie Pelkey. He is also survived by an extended in-law family. Whyn is predeceased by his father and mother Ralph H. and Lois Pelkey and brother Roger. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Friday, November 24, 2017 at 10AM at St. Paul Catholic Church, 485 Alling Street, Kensington, CT 06037 followed by internment in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends may call at Luddy-Peterson Funeral Home 205 S. Main Street, New Britain, CT 06051 from 8:30-9:30AM Friday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Whyn’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
