Anthony J. Wassil, Sr., 95, of Berlin, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 12, 2018. He was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Bylek) Wassil.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army in the South Pacific. He was a member of the VFW Post 511, Commander of the 169th and a “Men on the Year” recipient, New Britain Elks, Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree, American Legion, Teamsters Union, and played Semi Pro Football in New Britain.
Anthony is predeceased by his beloved wife of 73 years Veronica (Kaplan) Wassil; his son Anthony J. Wassil, Jr.; son-in-law Robert Margentino; brothers Michael, John, Walter, Nicholas, and Peter; and his sister Anne Todeschini.
He is survived by his loving daughters Veronica Sullivan and her husband Daniel, and Laurie Margentino all of Berlin; his cherished grandchildren Carrie Sullivan, Julie Hunt and her husband Steven, Brett Margentino, and Leah Margentino and Rebecca Wassil; and great-grandchildren Ryan Hunt, Sean Hunt, Anna Hunt, and Liliana Bobbi Margentino; sister-in-law Bertha Sojkowski; brother-in-law Raymond Kaplan and his wife Cynthia; and several nieces and nephews
Friends and family may call at the Luddy-Peterson Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., New Britain on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 9-10:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM at Sacred Heart Church located at 48 Cottage St, East Berlin, CT, and burial will follow at Maple Cemetery, 1164 Worthington Ridge, Berlin, CT.
