Gery Berthold, age 63, of Waterbury passed away on Sunday, July 7th, 2019 of natural causes.
He was born in Bridgeport, CT to William Berthold Sr. and Margaret (Herman) Berthold.
Gery was raised in the catholic church. Attending all of his childhood school years in Bridgeport private schools. He was an usher at his local church and always made it a point to bring his children to church on Sunday as they were growing up.
He had a special skill when it came to ceramic tile. That was his trade for several decades which he enjoyed very much. It was a skill, similar to artwork, that came so natural to him. He named the tile company after his son Brian, Brian Tile.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles and nice cars. He had a Harley Davidson for many years that he was very proud of and a Corvette he’d drive around like he stole it. He loved working on cars and dirt bikes with his son, Brian. He loved living life on the edge and really knew how to have a good time. For most of his life he rocked long hair and was called Sammy Hagar by many. He knew how to make you laugh and would laugh so hard sometimes no noise would come out. He was known to always wear a pocket t shirt, a pair of jeans, and a bandana. After a hard days work, he’d often visit a local bar for a cold Twisted Tea and a shot of tequila. He’d give you the shirt off his back if he knew you needed it, without ever expecting anything in return. He always dreamed of living on an island, doing something chill like selling ice cream and enjoying life.
Gery was predeceased by his Son, Brian Berthold, who was his pride and joy. He leaves behind a daughter, Brooke Leonard (Berthold), Son in law Cory Leonard, and 3 grandchildren whom he adored Corinne, Carleigh, and Brody all of Oxford. Gery is predeceased by his sister Judi Sapoucky (Berthold) and leaves behind 2 other siblings. William (Bill) Berthold of Shelton, and Peggy Berthold of Massachusetts. He also leaves behind his nephew, Michael Berthold of Seymour, and several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his nephew Gregg Sapoucky, and niece Jessica Sapoucky of Mass.
Service will be held at Southford Cemetery, 6 Hawley Road, Oxford, CT on Friday, July 19th at 11 am.
