James J. McLaughlin, 60, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2019. James was a lifelong Hartford resident where he attended St. Augustine School and Hartford Public High School, as well as having attended Porter & Chester Institute. Jim was a classic car buff and loved to work on cars. He routinely offered advice and helped work on the cars of friends and family. Jim especially excelled as a cook, having worked in many area restaurants over the past 35+ years - Joshua Tree, Charley's Place, and Angelo's on Main. He shared his talents with those he loved by making the most impressive desserts. Jim had many other talents that he shared; among them was his love of music and playing guitar. He also was an expert card player especially during family games of Setback. Jim also followed his father's love for the game of golf and played in high school.
Jim leaves behind his sisters, Carrie A. Damon of Cranston, RI, Theresa L. McLaughlin of Plainville, Eileen M. Willard and her husband Palmer of Forestville; nephew Nicholas A. Damon, niece Melissa Hayes and her husband Aaron; aunt Beatrice Corcoran and her husband Richard, as well as many beloved cousins. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Harold J. McLaughlin Jr. and Anna M. (O'Brien) McLaughlin, and a niece, Christine Damon. Jim touched many lives and will be sorely missed.
Calling hours will be held Monday, September 9, from 6-8 PM at Luddy & Peterson's Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, New Britain, CT. There will be a graveside service at Cedar Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, September 10, at 11am.
