Marie Theresa (Fox) Sanders

Marie (Fox) Sanders, 89, of New Britain, CT, beloved wife of the late William A. Sanders passed away at
home on Thursday, June 28, 2018. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late James P. and
Margaret (Doyle) Fox. She was a lifelong resident of New Britain. Marie was a graduate of St. Mary
School and New Britain High School. She also attended St. Joseph College. She was employed at the
Mohegan Market in New Britain and the First National Bank in Hartford. After raising her children, she
worked at Sanders Lock and Key Shop with her husband. Marie was a charter member of Saint Jerome
Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister, was active in the adult social club, and volunteered
at bingo nights. She was an active member of the Saint Jerome prayer line and prayer shawl ministries.
Marie enjoyed knitting, puzzles, mahjong, reading, and travel. She enjoyed time spent on Cape Cod, the
Berkshires, Las Vegas, and cruising with her husband. Marie enjoyed travel to Ireland, the birthplace of
her parents, where she visited many relatives. She was proud of her dual citizenship of the United States
and Ireland.

Marie’s greatest love and joy was for her family. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-
grandmother, she is survived by her eight children, thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren:
William and Colleen Sanders of Wethersfield, and William’s children Kimberly and her husband Kenneth
Spera, and their daughter Allison, William J. Sanders, and Meghan Garofalo; Stephen J. Sanders of New
Britain, and his daughter Sarah and her husband Chris Milley, and their daughters Ava and Gabriella;
Kathleen and George Deliman of Berlin, and their daughters Kristen and her husband Adam Grabowski,
and their daughter Lilia, and Kaitlin and her husband John Starr; Michael Sanders of New Britain;
Timothy Sanders of New Britain; Margaret and James Beaudoin of Bristol, and their children Daniel,
Patricia, and Christopher; Elizabeth Sanders of Plainville, and her son Timothy; and James P. Sanders of
Oxford, and his daughters Ashley, Alexis, and Arianna. She is also survived by her sister-in law Mary Lou
Sanders, cousins in Ireland and the United States, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-
nephews, and many friends.

Marie was predeceased by her loving husband, William A. Sanders, in 2009 after 56 years of marriage;
sisters Martha and Ethel Fox; brothers James, John, and Francis Fox; daughter-in-law Louise Sanders;
brother-in-law James E. Sanders; and sister-in-law Doris Fox.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 10am at St. Jerome Church, 1010 Slater
Rd., New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Family and friends may call at the
Luddy-Peterson Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., New Britain, Monday, July 2, 2018, from 5 to 8pm and
Tuesday morning from 9 to 9:30am.
