Mark McCrum Obituary

Mark Stephen McCrum died peacefully on Wednesday, May 22nd after a long respiratory illness. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Maureen (Dingle) McCrum and a son Ian McCrum of Danbury, CT.

Mark was born at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington on March 23, 1956 to the late Kathy McCrum and Colonel Lynn M. McCrum. Mark's family lived in many places in both the US and Europe, but settled in Briarcliff Manor, NY where Mark attended Briarcliff High School and graduated in the Class of '74. He then attended Boston University majoring in Business. After graduating from college, he worked in purchasing for US Gypsum in Tarrytown, NY, and Mamaroneck High School in Mamaroneck, NY and when he accepted a position as Director of Purchasing for the Town of Greenburgh, he was at the top level of his career. He retired from Greenburgh in 2017.

Mark strongly believed in the rewards of hard work and had a very solid and successful career.  He got along well with people and was very well liked and respected by those who knew him. One of Mark's great passions was investing in the stock market. He read Barron's every weekend and having a keen analytical mind and strong business sense enjoyed the challenge of the ups and downs of investing.

Being an army brat, Mark loved to travel and especially enjoyed taking cruises with family and friends to the Caribbean, Bermuda as well as Canada. Whether it was smooth sailing or rough seas, whale watching or snorkeling, Mark never tired of being on a ship in the ocean, smelling the fresh salty air, just letting the waves roll by and meeting new people. His other interests included tennis, skiing and swimming.

Mark will also be missed greatly by his brothers, Michael McCrum and his wife Chris of Larchmont, NY; Lynn McCrum Jr. and his wife Jackie of El Paso, Texas; Kevin McCrum and his wife Ahn, of Pensacola, Florida; and Karen (Leon) McCrum and her husband Bob of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, besides many nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt.

A gathering of family and friends to honor Mark's life will take place on Friday, June 21st.
