Philip Edward Sullivan, beloved husband of Charlotte (Goodwin) Sullivan, passed away under hospice care in his home September 13, 2017. Born in Hartford, Philip lived his life with humility, integrity, honesty and kindness as his guides. He was generous, thoughtful, good hearted, hardworking and loyal. No matter what came his way he approached life with determination and optimism. He was a graduate of Long Beach Poly Technic High School and attended Central Ct. State University and had many talents and interests. He believed in the art of the possible. He was a student of history; he applied for and received two patents; he studied music and perfected the guitar securing the coveted position of "studio musician" in California until the draft for Vietnam interfered and he was replaced by Glen Campbell. Thereafter he returned to Connecticut and published an instructional guitar book, taught guitar for many years and was the founder and owner of the Columbia Poly Pack Company. Philip was well read, self-educated and an avid reader of many genres with a strong interest in history and constitutional law in general. And, if not for the twists that often happen in life, after his father passed and his mother remarried he would have completed college and law school if he hadn't selflessly stepped up to provide support for his mother and step-siblings after her second husband passed. One of his greatest joys throughout his life was finding good homes (including his own) for abandoned dogs (and an occasional cat). He dearly loved each and every one of them and made sure they were well placed in loving homes. Philip was a beloved and cherished husband and soulmate to his wife Charlotte and leaves her and his brother and sisters in-laws, several nieces and nephews and his beloved feline buddy "Monnie" behind. It was Philip's wish there be no calling hours and a memorial service will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Protectors of Animals, 144 Main St. Unit O East Hartford, CT 06118.
