Robert Joseph Vontell

In loving memory of Robert Joseph Vontell of Marlborough, CT who passed away on the 29th of March 2018 at the age of 81. Robert was an exceptional man who was dearly loved by all of his family and friends. He was the son of Leon and Yvonne (Frenette) Vontell from Farmington, CT. Robert served in the United States Navy and he was employed at the Hartford Courant for 38 years. He earned his degree from the Greater Hartford Community College in Hartford, CT.

Robert was a member of the St. John Fisher Church, where he was involved in Eucharistic Ministry. He was a member of the Marlborough Lions Club, the Marlborough American Legion and Westbrook Elk’s Club. Robert liked to travel with his wife. He enjoyed gardening,photography, and was an avid fisherman who felt that good things come to those who bait.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor (Bushnell) Vontell; his son Robert Vontell, Jr. and his wife Bonnie (Sarno) of Easton, CT; his daughters Debra (Vontell) Block of Napa CA, Michelle (Vontell) Steagall of Fair Oaks, CA, Diana (Vontell) Cyr and her husband David of Mansfield, CT, Valerie (Vontell) Bell and her husband Robert of Manchester, CT, and Dr. Regina Vontell and her husband Paul (Hitch) of Hollywood, FL. Robert is dearly loved by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Robert is survived by his brothers Richard Vontell and Roland Vontell of Bristol, CT and Raymond Vontell of Sandusky, OH; and his sisters Nancy Barnett, Theresa Soucy, and Barbara Piazza of Bristol, CT, and June Cowles of Plymouth, CT. He predeceased by his daughter Kathleen Marion Vontell.

There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at St. John Fisher Church, 30 Jones Hollow Rd in Marlborough, CT at 11:00 am followed by a reception at the Marlborough American Legion Post 197, 128 E Hampton Rd, in Marlborough, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. John Fisher Church Religious Education Program.
