Barbara Whitman Dwire

Barbara Dwire, 87, of Tolland, CT, wife of the late Leon Dwire, died on Saturday, January 24, at Evergreen Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Stafford, CT.

Barbara was born in New Haven, CT, to Edna (Taylor) and Leslie Whitman. She graduated from Rockville High School, before working in data processing, then later, in hospitality.

Barbara enjoyed caring for her cats and dogs; watching NASCAR races and soap operas; and cooking comforting meals for her family.

Barbara is survived by her children, Leanne Connolly of South Windsor, Lynn McNamara and her husband, Chris McNamara of Nunda, NY, and Robert Dwire and his fiancée, Marnie Taylor of Thomaston, CT; daughter-in-law, Nancy Dwire of Ellington; brother, Thomas Whitman of Tolland; bother-in-law, Conrad Dwire of Tolland; sister-in-law, Roxann Dwire of Tolland; her grandchildren, Erin, Patrick, Kevin, Emily, Ian, Isaiah, Elijah, and Maiah; and many nieces and nephews. Besides Leon, she was preceded in death by sons, Ronald and James; son-in-law, Joseph Connolly; and siblings, Lin Banning and Mary Neff.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, February 6, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Vernon United Church of Christ at 695 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon, CT 06066. At the family's request, no calling hours will be held, and the burial will be private. Donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Vernon United Church of Christ.
