Bertha Grillo Obituary

Bertha D. Grillo, 96, of Heritage Commons, Middletown, CT (formerly of Meriden, CT), the wife of the late John Grillo, well known Real Estate Property owner back in the 50's, passed on January 6, 2020.

Born in Melrose, Ma, on April 151 1923, Bertha was the daughter of the late Daniel "Dante" A. and Nellie M. (Scott) Rozzi of Meriden, CT. Bertha attended school in East Hampton, NY, and South Hampton, NY, and was a graduate of Pierson High School in Sag Harbor, Long Island, NY. She was also a graduate of Meriden, CT School of Business. Bertha met her husband while working for him at Grillo Real Estate, later joining Simmione & Simmione accountants of Hamden, CT, retiring in 1995.

Bertha was a devote Catholic and belonged to the Catholic Women's Organization for many years. She enjoyed small simple pleasures, especially the fresh fragrance of her amazing flower gardens. An avid reader, she enjoyed reading just about anything, novels, gardening books, and politics. Most of all, she enjoyed being surrounded by her loving family. Her goodness, caring, love and wisdom will live on like a legacy that will be with us all.

Mrs. Grillo is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Frances (Grillo)and Peter A. D'Agostino. She also leaves behind her three grandchildren, Peter M. and his wife Meredith D'Agostino, Michele F. and her husband Chris Wrenn, and Mark Grillo; three great-grandchildren McKenna D'Agostino, Kyle D'Agostino and Caleb Wrenn; a brother, Claude Rozzi and his wife Corinne of South Carolina; Several nieces and nephews; and many other special family members and friends. Besides her husband and her parents, Mrs. Grillo and predeceased by her son John W. Grillo; her brothers Edward Rozzi and Daniel Rozzi.

The family is appreciative of the compassionate care given by Heritage Commons of Middletown.

Beginning at 9:30 am there will be a showing of respects, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial held on Monday, January 13 at 10 AM at Mt. Carmel Parish, 109 Goodwill Ave. Meriden, CT. Burial will follow, at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden, CT. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Middlesex Health Hospice, 8 Crescent St, Middletown, CT 06457
