Bonita “Nita” Karen Hansen passed away on Friday, March 26th at 5:15 am, at home surrounded by her family. Nita was born on November 21st, 1942 in Lakewood, Ohio the daughter of the late Robert and Vivienne Hansen. Her sweetheart of over 20 years Edward Stubbs sadly preceded her in death several years ago passing in 2017.
Nita was a graduate of Lakewood High School, class of 1960 and further graduated early from Ohio University in 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in education. Her continued educational pursuits later earned her a master’s degree from Syracuse University in New York.
Nita spent over a decade teaching in the American schools overseas in Japan, Germany and Bahrain Island. Then, deciding to pursue her passion domestically, Nita moved to Boston where she continued her teaching career and later moved to Connecticut where she taught High School English and ultimately retired from Torrington School District in Torrington, CT. Through her career she was beloved, respected and admired by hundreds of students and her memory will live through them for years to come.
Nita was an active member and participant with the Unitarian Society of Hartford, Hartford Stage Company, The Canton Public Library, as well as others. She devoted her time to volunteering and helping others. Within each organization her involvement will be missed as she was always known to bring a unique perspective and zest for life to every conversation.
Nita is survived by her sister Roberta Jane of St. Clair Shores, MI her two nieces, Bonita Karen of St. Clair Shores, MI and Hannah Christine of Roseville, MI. She took great pride in her two great nephews Andrew Joseph and Jacob Sean. At Nita’s request, there will not be any services.
