Carol Hylbert Totire, beloved wife of Daniel Joseph Totire for 61 years, passed away on
October 6, 2023 at 7:41pm, surrounded by family at the Countryside Manor of Bristol.
She was born in Gauley Bridge, West Virginia on June 29 th , 1935, the daughter of the
late Bernard and Stella Hylbert. She was the elder of two siblings, David Hylbert. She
grew up in places like Sugar Creek and South Zanesville, Ohio.
Carol grew up as a dedicated Christian and a lover of music. She loved playing the
piano and singing in the choir and served the church as the pianist and organist. After
graduating from Ohio University, she taught as a public-school teacher in Parma Ohio
until she married her husband Daniel J. Totire of Bristol, Ct in 1962. They lived in North
Olmsted, Ohio until 1993 when Daniel retired from NASA and together, they moved
back to Bristol. She and Daniel lived out their retirement enjoying the old homestead,
gardening, traveling, and visiting the relatives. Carol joined the Advent Christian Church
in Bristol and eventually moved on to the Bristol Baptist Church, using her musical
talents there. She had a deep love for the Lord and was always ready to talk to
strangers, smile, and share God’s love and the Good News with others.
She lived the last years of her life with her husband at the Countryside Manor of Bristol,
where she was active in making new friends and served as the vice president of the
resident council. She is best remembered by all for her friendly personality, kind heart
and infectious smile.
