David "Red" Lovig, 41, of Gulfport, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2022, after a long illness. David grew up in Waterbury and Watertown, CT, but his heart was in Saint Petersburg, Florida, where he lived for 24 years. He worked in the service industry for many years and was a well-loved, welcoming presence in his community. David's true love was tropical plants, and was well known for his "jungle" and house plants. As a young boy, David built his own greenhouse and sold plants to neighbors and friends at his roadside stand. His dream was to run his own business, "Red's Tropics," before his health declined. David, known by his friends as "Red," was a true friend and will always be remembered for his kind heart and gentle spirit. David will be dearly missed. David was predeceased by his mother, Katherine Morcey, who passed away in 2019. He is survived by his father, Thomas Lovig, and his wife Marion of Branford, CT, his sister, Deborah London, her husband Scott, of Tolland, CT, his nephew Jonah Vermilya, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, his niece, Alaina Vermilya of Tolland, CT, his niece, Chloe London of Tolland, CT, his Aunt, Francis Morcey and her partner, George Hartery of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, his Uncle, Robert Morcey, and his wife, Chris of Lake Forest, CA, his Aunt Holly and her husband, Bruce, of San Luis Obispo, CA, his cousin Tricia Gentil, and her husband Guy, of Middlebury, CT, his cousin Mark Stein and his wife Mary, of Middlebury, CT, his cousin Kim and her husband Dritan of Pasadena, CA, his chosen family, and friends-till-the-end, Shannon "Shane" Crites and his husband, Bobby, of Las Vegas, NV, Donnie Engle of St. Luis, MO, Rick Nale of Saint Petersburg, FL and Robin Bean of Saint Petersburg, FL, and a host of other cousins, second cousins, and many friends.
Per David's request, no wake or funeral will be held, and his remains will be buried alongside his mother in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury, CT. Instead, he preferred a Celebration of Life in Saint Petersburg, FL (more information to come).
Memorial Donations can be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd, Branford, CT.
David's family and friends are entirely grateful for their outstanding care during his final weeks.
