Dennis McCormick Obituary

Dennis James McCormick passed away suddenly at home Sunday, February 9, 2020. He was
born in Hartford, on November 2, 1947. Dennis is survived by the love of his life, Leila Smith
McCormick, who were married for 45 years, his daughter Caitlin McCormick McKee and
husband Jeff, and their two sons Connor and Jack McKee. Dennis relished every moment he
had with his family and especially loved spoiling his grandsons. Whether it was sitting on his
tractor with them for hours in the shed (at their request), taking Connor for his favorite french
fries at the diner, or taking a nap with Jack every afternoon. These are the moments that
warmed his heart. Connor and Jack loved him more than anything. He was an amazing
husband, the most supportive, giving and loving father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law
and uncle. Dennis became part of Ralph & Irene Smith’s family as a young man in high school,
and the Smith family will always feel that Dennis was one of the family’s greatest gifts.
Dennis lived a life of Integrity, Loyalty and Honor. He served his country in the Vietnam war
from 1967 to 1969 and was honorably discharged from the United States Army as a Sergeant.
Denny was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for his bravery. As a man that didn’t
share a lot about his time in Vietnam, his list of medals represents what a true and humble hero
Denny was.
After many years at the US Postal Service, Dennis retired in 2010 and went on to enjoy building
many years of wonderful memories with his family and friends.
At the family’s request his burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers you can donate to
the Wounded Warrior Project at WoundedWarriorProject.Org in Dennis McCormick’s memory.
