Diane Côté Obituary

Diane Carmel Côté, age 65, lifetime resident of New Britain, sadly passed away on December 7, 2021, at the Hospital of Central CT surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.

Diane was born on February 17,1956 in New Britain as the first- born American citizen of 12 children who originated from Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada. She was the beloved daughter of Willie and Antonia (Morin) Côté.  Diane attended local schools Elihu Burrit elementary school, Nathan Hale Junior high school, and graduating at New Britain High School.

Diane worked at several factories throughout New Britain as one of the first female factory workers. She started working in this industry when New Britain manufacturing was in its heyday. She began her career at Fafnir’s and Tuttle & Bailey and finally ending her career at Stanley Works.

Diane was a parishioner of St. Dominic Church in Southington, as well as St. Mary and St. Ann of New Britain. She was an animal lover and was a proud member of the ASPCA. She had a special place in her heart for animals. She loved her two cats, Marbles and Boo. Diane was an amazing single mother and was thought of as a hero by her only son David Côté. She was very involved in her son’s education and extracurricular activities. She wrote newspaper columns in the New Britain Herald about scores, big plays, and the names of children involved for the Walicki Little League Baseball games. She was a lover of many different genres of music Diane and her son would regularly take trips to the beach while enjoying music and each other’s company along the way.

Diane will be remembered for her amazing cooking as well as unconditional love for her son and 74 nieces and nephews. From first generation to third generation, she babysat for her sibling’s 24 children in her younger years.

Diane is survived by her only child David Côté and four siblings Noella (Côté) Langlois, Camille Côté, Brian Côté, and Stephen Côté. She is predeceased by her seven siblings, brothers  Gerard, Lawrence, Bertrand, Clifford, and Gerald Côté and sisters Loraine Côté and Gloria (Côté) Raymond.

Diane also leaves behind many friends, including best friends Ginette (Michaud) Picard, Jerry Evans, Rick Bern, and Marc and Rachel Plourde.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Dominic Church at 1050 Flanders Road in Southington at 10am on Saturday January 8, 2022, followed by interment at St. Mary Cemetery at 1141 Stanley Street in New Britain. Arrangements have been entrusted to Luddy-Peterson Funeral Home at 205 South Main Street in New Britain, CT.
