Edward J. (Sr.) Kostak

Edward J. Kostak, Sr., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, surrounded by his family.  Born August 11, 1936 in New Hartford to the late John and Mary (Krutka) Kostak; He was a lifelong resident of New Hartford.  

Ed was a retired volunteer firefighter for the Town of New Hartford and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was a carpenter by trade, running his own business, building and remodeling many homes in Litchfield County over the past 67 years.  He was a dedicated New York Yankees fan and UCONN Women’s basketball fan.  He enjoyed taking the road less traveled during his many family vacations and ski trips with his son, and especially enjoyed his annual camping trips to Prospect Mountain Campground with his grandkids and daughter.  One of Ed’s greatest enjoyments was playing his Dulcimer for anyone who would listen and found great pleasure trying to teach his grandchildren how to play too.

Ed leaves his longtime friend and mother of his children, Philomena Lataif of New Hartford; two children, Edward Kostak Jr. and wife Laurie Inglis of Colebrook and daughter Erica Dyndiuk and husband Mark of Barkhamsted; grandchildren, Aran, Mark, Lindsay and Marina Dyndiuk all of Barkhamsted and many nieces, nephews and extended family in the States and in Ireland.  He was predeceased by a sister, Bernice Malsick and a brother, Kenneth Kostak, Sr.

The family wish to thank the staff of Saint Francis Hospital and Foothills VNA for their care.

Funeral services will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Barkhamsted Historical Society or New Hartford Volunteer Fire Department.
