Gary Louis Travers, 72, of Winsted, CT, passed away at home on November 19, surrounded by loving family.
Gary was born July 7 th , 1952, in Beverly MA, the son of Joseph W. Travers and Ruth Louise (Jones) Travers and brother of Donald and Ann.
Gary was an Eagle Scout and then a Boy Scout camp counselor. He graduated from Beverly High School and Plymouth State University with a B.A. in Education. He earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Hartford.
Gary married Ann Donihue on June 29, 1986, in Washington, CT. They have two daughters, Virginia (Jinny) and Sarah.
Gary worked as an Elementary school teacher in New Hampshire. He became assistant headmaster at Wykeham Rise in Washington, CT, and, subsequently, principal at Isabelle M. Pearson Middle School in Winsted, CT, and then at Eli Terry Jr. Middle School in Plymouth, CT.
Gary especially loved woodworking, New England sports teams, fishing, being outdoors, travelling and spending time at home with his family, and playing with the family dog, Maddie. The beautiful ornaments he made grace our Christmas trees every year and the beer he home brewed was enjoyed by all.
Remaining to cherish Gary’s memory are Ann, Jinny, Sarah, Don Donihue, Michael Donihue, Sue MacKenzie, David Donihue, Kate Neuman, Colin Donihue, Ross Donihue, and Elias Neuman-Donihue.
There will be a celebration of Gary’s life at a future date.
