Gary Joseph Verrillo

Gary Joseph (Federovich) Verrillo, 68, of 19 Bradley Street, New Britain, passed away peacefully
surrounded by family and friends on February 17, 2023. A lifelong resident of New Britain, Gary was
preceded in death by his father Joseph, his mother Florence, and two brothers, John and Joseph.
Besides his beloved fiancé, Elizabeth Hamisevich, Gary leaves behind many first and second cousins
including, Edward Federovich, Jerry Federovich, Bill Kowalczyk, Karen Jones, Bonnie Pronovost, Rita
Alexandria, Kathy Tino, Carmen Russo, Elizabeth Russo and Geraldine Lombard.
A graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1973, Gary was a terror on the gridiron at left tackle. His
senior superlative at NBHS was “Best All Around.” Gary loved football and was a lifelong New York
Giants fan, as were his father and brothers.
Gary graduated from Central Connecticut State University (College), studying History, where he was
intimately involved in campus politics. After college, he selflessly forwent his own career and chose to
work in the family business, operating Burritt Music Shop, New Britain, for many years alongside his
brother, Joseph B. Verrillo III. Following his time at Burritt Music, Gary operated his own music store in
Vernon, CT where, among other things, he provided instruments for students’ musical needs at local
schools. Still later in life, Gary changed careers and worked many years for Polar Beverage Company,
alongside his brother John Verrillo, eventually serving in a supervisory capacity.
Gary will be dearly missed by his family, his many friends and most of all by Elizabeth, the love of his life.
For the many people he encountered each day, in the music business and while working for Polar
Beverages, his special spirit, gregarious laugh and kind words for everyone, made the world a better
place.
A celebration of Gary’s life is expected to take place at a yet TBA date and location in May 2023.
