George Chaivanik Obituary

George R. “Chip” Chaivanik, 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Chip was born to George and Margaret Chaivanik, and was a graduate of Kaynor Technical High School. He served his country as a Navy veteran and went on to become a skilled toolmaker.
Chip was a proud member of the Elks Club 265.

Chip had a passion for the simple joys in life. He loved fishing, playing golf, and gathering with friends for a good game of cards. His quick wit and playful sense of humor made him a joy to be around. Chip was known for his trivia knowledge.

Above all, Chip cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen (Kathy); his children, sons Steven (Denise) and Scott (Myra), and daughter Stacy Brites (Bryan). He adored his grandchildren, Tyler and Cole Chaivanik, and Brandon Brites. Chip also leaves behind cousins, nieces and nephews, and a close-knit group of friends, including Ralph Russo, Edward Held, and his adoptive brother, Al Grabowski.

Chip is predeceased by his parents, George and Margaret Chaivanik, and his brother, John “Jack” Chaivanik.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Hartford Healthcare at Home inpatient Hospice team- Kristen, Diana, and Cat- for their compassion and care during his final days. Special thanks also to the nurses at HOCC C5 for the comfort and attention they provided.

A celebration of Chip’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in his memory.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Luddy & Peterson’s Funeral Home.
