Herbert Stevens Obituary

Herbert R. Stevens passed away peacefully on Thursday November 14, 2025, after a tough battle with dementia. Born in New Britain in 1943, he spent his younger years in Ashland, Maine before returning to Connecticut to live in New Britain and Newington for the rest of his days.

Herb was a 1961 graduate of E.C. Goodwin Technical High School where he studied automotive. After graduation he worked as an mechanic while continuing his education to achieve certification as an ASE Master Technician. Over the years he worked at several dealerships, proudly maintaining his certifications until retiring in 2011. During his working years, he formed several strong friendships which he treasured to the end.

Herb married young having 4 children. He later remarried gaining 5 bonus children. To his kids he was the car guy, a jack of all trades, so full of knowledge on so many subjects. Our go to guy, for all things. He will be so greatly missed. We find comfort knowing he’s now at peace. A peace he so truly deserves.

Herb is survived by his loving wife Brenda, who has meant the world to him. His children Brian, Greg & Doug Stevens, Lisa (Jay) Dumais, April Stevens, Tony (Patty) Amato, Steve (Heather)Amato and Kathy (Bob) Hull, his many friends, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, his brother Peter D. Leach and many dear cousins.

Herb was predeceased by his son Jeff Amato, his parents Herbert J. & Mary (Grant) Stevens and his siblings Joyce Dunn, Mary Aresimowicz, Burton Stevens & Katherine Gomez.

Respecting his wishes, there will be no service. Instead we should “gather for a meal from time to time, and share fond memories of him.” Forever in our hearts Dad.
