Irene Anna Marzec, 93, passed away peacefully on 27 March after a prolonged illness. She was a long-time resident of New Britain and Newington. Irene was born on 09 March 1931 in New Britain, CT. to the late Michael and Anna (Lille) Marzec. She graduated from New Britain High School and entered the workforce. She was employed by Arute Motors, Lebron Ford, and retired from A.H. Harris in 1996. She was a gregarious woman with many friends. She developed a close friendship of 65 plus years with Dolores Valentine, “Val”. They traveled, read romantic novels and shared a passion for purple. In later years, they enjoyed walking/exercising in the mall early mornings and stopped for coffee and a donut! They attended Mass on Saturday’s and went out to dinner. Routine…comfortable routine. In addition to her parents, Irene was predeceased by her brothers Alphonse (Agnes Wrobel) Marzec, and Ernest (Victoria Sisti) Marzec. She is survived by her niece, Karen Marzec Sciolino (John), nephew, Michael Marzec (Katherine), great nieces and nephews, and a host of many other relatives. A Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 195 South Main Street, at 10:30 April 19, 2024. Burial services will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery directly following the Mass. Special thanks to Dolores “Val” Valentine and Robert and Linda (Valentine) Robertson for their support during this journey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ASPCA.
