John (Jack) MacLennan, 88, formerly of New Britain, passed away on December 11, 2020 at Ledgecrest Convalescent Home in Kensington, CT due to many health complications following a bout with COVID-19. He was born in Vanceboro, Maine, on July, 16, 1932, to the late Milton J. and Tressie M. (Mills) MacLennan. Jack grew up in Bristol, CT and moved to New Britain after leaving home.
He worked many years at his Uncle Cliffton's used appliances and furniture store and later worked at various factory positions before retiring in 1997. Jack loved watching TV and especially John Wayne movies but his most loved hobby was woodworking and sculpting from wood. He made many cute doll cradles and miniature furniture pieces. He also made names and signs from wood and was especially proud of the one he created for Paradise Pizza Restaurant which hung on their dining room wall for several years. Jack enjoyed reading his bible literature and was formerly affiliated with the Jehovah's Witnesses Church St. Congregation in Newington. He never refused an opportunity to be with family and enjoyed picnics, the beach, and also spending time with his cat, Ginger. He will be remembered as adventurous, thoughtful and generous to a fault. He loved his family and was proud he could rattle off all his nieces and nephews birthdates before dementia stole his memory.
Jack was predeceased by four sisters, Eleanor Fellows, Evelyn Veilleux, Elva Choiniere and Jeane Brunet and several nephews, Frank and Tim Nicklis, Steve Brunet, Jeff Choiniere and a niece Dawn Mattig. He is survived by four nieces, Donna Siemasko of Shelton, Deborah Veilleux of East Berlin, Bonnie Lind of Bristol, Shirley Kupiec of Kensington and four nephews, Jack Nicklis of Southington, Gary Brunet of Brewster, MA, Kevin Brunet of Maryland, and Greg Choiniere of Spokane, WA.
Many thanks to Luddy Peterson (Jolene) for handling arrangements and to Masonic Care Hospice, as well as to staff at The hospital of Central CT for their care during his many hospital stays this year. A special thanks goes out to the kind nurses at Ledgecrest and to Juliet Alicia for her many years of caregiving. No services were held due to COVID-19. Direct burial was held on December 24, 2020. Uncle Jack you will be forever loved and missed.
