Joseph A. Gallo, age 86, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on September 7, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, where he lived most of his life, Joe lived a life defined by service, dedication, and quiet strength. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. His military service shaped his character and values for the rest of his life. His commitment to duty, honor, and loyalty remained evident long after his service ended, as did his strength and remarkable will to live.
Following his time in the Marines, Joe worked as a longshoreman for more than 30 years. He was known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and dependability. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who cherished time spent with those he loved.
Joe enjoyed great Italian food, music, a good Western movie, and, most of all, spending time with his family. He took pride in sharing stories from his life and military service. His wisdom, sense of humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his two sons, Dominick T. Gallo and his wife, Lisa, and Joseph K. Gallo and his wife, Christine; and his grandson and namesake, Joseph A. Gallo II (JoJo), with whom he lived for the past seven years. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mitsuko Goto (Sally); his parents, Connie (Tavoline) and Dominick Gallo; and his brother, Alfonso Gallo.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joseph’s memory to Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield, Connecticut.
Joseph will be remembered with gratitude and love for his service to his country and his unwavering devotion to his family.
