Kathe Amaio, 75, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 peacefully at home. She was the loving daughter of Albert and Gay (Ponton) Amaio, and sister of Michael and Albert, Jr. (Skipper), all who predeceased her. She leaves behind many cousins and friends. In addition, Kathe leaves behind her most cherished cat, Molly, who was always at her side. Her friends Pennie and Ricky are giving Molly a new home.
Kathe worked in geriatric care facilities in Connecticut and Vermont. She especially loved working with people who had Alzhimer’s disease or dementia. She lived in Townsend, Vermont for many years. There she spent much of her time spinning wool and knitting sweaters. She was a true artist who was commissioned by specialty shops for her sweaters.
Kathe was a survivor of cancer for over 11 years. She was passionate about the Plainville, CT YMCA’s “LiveStrong” program where she was both a participant and mentor.
Kathe was able to live at home as she wished with the help of various caregivers. Kathe appreciated each and every one of her caregivers. Near the end, the Farmington Valley VNA Hospice Program was instrumental in keeping Kathe home and as comfortable as possible. Special thanks go to her CCCI caseworker, Christy, who worked relentlessly to make sure Kathe received the best services available.
A graveside service for Kathe will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at the Riverside Cemetery, 160 Garden St, Farmington, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the animal shelter of your choice.
