Kathy Pleva, 73, of Windsor Locks, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025, after a short illness.
Kathy dedicated her life to caring for others. A registered nurse by profession, she served patients for many years at St. Francis Hospital and Mt. Sinai Hospital before retiring in 2015. Known for her compassion and calming presence, she was a caretaker at heart—always willing to step in to help family members, friends, and anyone in need.
Her deep love for family was evident in all that she did. Since 1994, she made her home in Windsor Locks, where she built lasting friendships and memories.
Travel was her lifelong passion. For many years, she explored the world alongside her beloved mother, Ruth, who was her constant companion until her passing in 1993. Kathy continued her journeys in the years that followed, traveling both solo and with friends, and cherishing every new place and person she encountered.
Kathy was predeceased by her parents, Ruth Yiznitsky Pleva and Joseph Henry Pleva. She is survived by her three brothers, Joseph and wife, Linda, Thomas and wife Roseann, and John; and by her nieces and nephews, Heather Pleva, Kelly Pleva, Jay Pleva and wife Shania, Jack Pleva, Kaitlyn Terriciano, Christopher LaCroix and wife Jonni, Jessica Stare and also by her great- niece, Eleanor Lebel. They will miss her dearly but take comfort in knowing she lived a life rich with love, service, and adventure.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at St. Bernard Cemetery, 65 Winthrop Street, Tariffville, on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 1:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life at the Cracker Barrel Pub, 30 Main Street, Tariffville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Desmond’s Army Animal Law Advocates, PO Box 164, Winsted, CT 06098 or at desmondsarmy.org.
