Khurshed Rastomji, aka Chinky, of Willimantic passed away at age 79 on 11/22/22. He was born in Pune, India and moved to the U.S. as a young adult to continue his musical studies. After graduating with advanced degrees from UConn he spent his life teaching piano and giving classical piano concerts at local venues. He was also an ardent bridge player and very much enjoyed teaching bridge at Mansfield Senior Center and more recently playing bridge at Columbia Senior Center.
He is survived by his sister Diana Rastomjee in India and his nephew Dr. Dirk Rastomjee and his wife Dr. Jane Hirst in the UK. He was especially close to the Szegda family of Columbia, the Hart/Khan family of Willimantic, Kacey and Michael McCarthy-Zaremba of Norwich, Radha Krishnan of Storrs and Della Hennelly of Glastonbury. He also endeared himself to an enormous circle of admiring and caring friends.
Because of his music, his sharp wit, humor and his exceptionally caring nature Chinky will be deeply missed. His sister Diana wishes to convey to all that she felt so blessed to have him as a wonderful and caring brother. He nurtured his circle of family and friends by reaching out regularly to each individual and more frequently in their times of need. The absence of his telephone calls and visits will leave a huge void in many lives. He lived a life of great simplicity and left a light footprint on this earth.
At his request there will be no funeral services. If you wish to make a donation please do so to a charity of your own choosing.
