Kurt Leindecker, 93, of West Haven, passed away on Friday May 7, 2021 after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Filomena (Philomena Mauro) Leindecker.
Born in 1928 in Ansbach, Germany, he was the son of the late Friedrich and Babette (Hassler) Leindecker.
Kurt came to America in the early 1950’s where he was employed by B Packtor Co. in Hamden. He retired with commendations from Yale New Haven hospital in 2000 after many years of service.
He was proud to be employed by the US Army after WWII to restore communications in his homeland of Germany and throughout Europe at the age of 17. He was nearly the sole male survivor of his high school graduating class in Ansbach, Germany.
Kurt was a loving father, husband, and uncle. He was an accomplished technical mechanic as well as an accomplished soccer player. Kurt was well known locally for coaching boys’ soccer in West Haven. He was also an extraordinary ping pong player.
Kurt is survived by his brother-in-law Albert P. Mauro of Kansas City, MO; three nieces, Renate Kluczykowski of Holly Springs, NC, Mary Jo Carter of Wallingford, Rachel Mauro of New York City and two nephews, Albert P. Mauro Jr. of Kansas City, MO, and John D. Mauro of Middletown.
In addition to his wife, Filomena, he was predeceased by his son Kurt G. Leindecker.
A private interment will take place in the coming weeks for the immediate family.
