Marie P. Walsh, 90, longtime resident of Simsbury, CT and later Berlin, CT died peacefully on November 9, 2023. She was the beloved daughter of Charles F. and Mary A. Pitman, and was born in Staten Island, NY on July 7, 1933. Marie attended St. Peter’s Grammar and High School, and Notre Dame College, Staten Island, NY. In high school she reached the highest score in Math SAT test and was mentioned in the United States SAT Journal.
Marie was married to Neil Walsh on May 2, 1957, in Biloxi, Mississippi, where Neil was stationed in the Air Force, and Marie lived until Neil was moved overseas.
Marie was the beloved mother of her sons, Neil D. Walsh and her late daughter-in-law, Joy Walsh of Bristol, CT; Robert J. Walsh and daughter-in-law, Lori Walsh of Manchester, CT; Brian W. Walsh of Moodus, CT; and Sean M. Walsh and daughter-in-law Kimberly M. Walsh of Westerly R.I. Marie was pre-deceased by her son Kevin F. Walsh of Berlin, CT. Marie is also survived by her beloved sister, Joan A. Lewis and late brother-in-law Raymond V. Lewis of Poughkeepsie, NY, and her sister-in-law Mary and brother-in-law Robert Iannucci of Sarasota, FL. She is also survived by several grandchildren, Patrick K. Walsh of Forestville, CA, Kelly E. Walsh of Torrington, CT, Meghan E. and husband Phil Sherrel of Alpharetta GA, Katherine A. and husband Matthew Dews of Vernon, CT, and a great grandson, Colton J. Crouthamel of Torrington, CT. Marie is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.
Marie joined Emhart Corp., Farmington, CT, in 1977, where she held employee benefit positions in Human Resources and Treasury Departments, to Administrator-Pension Financing. She earned the designation of certified Employee Benefit Specialist from Wharton School of Finance in 1984. She was a member of the International Society of Employee Benefit Specialists. In 1987, Marie was promoted to the position of Manager, Pension Administration. In that capacity Marie was responsible for the administration of all U.S. pension plans, including the determination and ongoing payment of pension entitlements. In addition, Marie assisted in the administration of worldwide pension plans.
When Emhart moved to another state, Marie became employed at Hooker & Holcomb in West Hartford, CT. She was responsible for all their major company’s Pension Plans.
Marie retired a few years later, and enjoyed her retirement years going to the beach, traveling with friends and family on cruises, and trips in America and abroad. She mostly loved spending time with her family, babysitting her grand kids and grand pups as well as hosting all the major holidays at her home in Simsbury.
Friends are invited to calling hours from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 18 at Luddy & Peterson’s Funeral Home, 205 S. Main Street, New Britain, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Joseph’s Church, 195 S. Main Street, New Britain, CT at 10:30am.
