Matthew J. Fillmore (“MJ”), 43, of Hartford, Connecticut, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, at his home in Hartford.
Matthew was born on September 25, 1982. He was the beloved son of Patricia Ann Sherman, who passed away on January 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with lymphoma, and Billy R. Fillmore Sr. of Mars Hill, Maine. Matthew shared an especially close bond with his mother and loved her deeply.
Matthew is survived by his father, Billy R. Fillmore Sr.; his brother, Billy R. Fillmore Jr.; his sister, Dawn M. Gaski; his cherished daughter, Kylei M. Stephenson; and his niece and nephew, Julia Willis and Caleb Willis.
Matthew attended school in Bristol, Connecticut, graduating from Bristol Central High School, and later attended Middlesex Community College, where he studied computer graphics.
Matthew was employed as a delivery truck driver with Amazon Prime, a role he took pride in. He previously worked as a butcher at Stop & Shop, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability.
A devoted NFL fan, Matthew proudly supported the New York Giants. He enjoyed playing disc golf and had a lifelong love for animals. Matthew was also an avid movie fan, enjoying genres ranging from action and adventure to comedy and science fiction. Some of his favorite television shows included Seinfeld, Married with Children, The Wonder Years, and 227.
Matthew was a genuinely kind and caring person with a great sense of humor. He was someone people enjoyed being around and could always be counted on to help anyone in need.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Luddy and Peterson’s Funeral Home, located at 205 S. Main St., New Britain, CT 06051.
Matthew will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
