Richard H. Young, 93, of Canton, Connecticut, peacefully passed away on December 8, 2025,
surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 20, 1932, to William and Evelynn
Young, Richard was a gentle, kind, and loving man known for his fairness, honesty, and
integrity. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Richard attended Miami University in Ohio before transferring to Case Institute in
Cleveland, where he earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began his career at
Combustion Engineering in Windsor, Connecticut, where he was introduced to the emerging
nuclear field. Selected for specialized training at Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Richard later earned
his master’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He considered himself fortunate
to work alongside brilliant colleagues who became lifelong friends, remaining with the
company until his retirement in 1994.
In 1968, Richard moved to Canton. He fell in love with the town where he lived the rest of
his life. He was an active member of Canton Congregational Church and served his
community for 14 years on the Board of Finance, Board of Education, and Board of
Selectmen.
Richard was devoted to his family, cherishing Saturday gatherings filled with cookouts,
sports, and laughter. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Barbara Young,
and his four brothers: Bill, Jim, Bob, and Joe. He is survived by his four children: Suki Incillo
(husband Michael), Karen Clark (husband Tony), Stephen Young (wife Sue), and Susan
Matheson (husband David); nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Later in life,
Richard found love again with Sandra Bridgman of Canton, extending his family to include
her children and grandchildren.
An avid athlete, Richard enjoyed baseball, softball, tennis, paddleball, and golf. In his later
years, he found joy in cheering for his beloved Boston Celtics and Red Sox.
Per Richard’s wishes, there will be no public service; a private family gathering will be held.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Brandywine Living in Litchfield,
Connecticut, who treated him with love, compassion and respect during his final months.
