Robert Barrett Obituary

Robert Patrick Barrett, Jr., 83, passed away peacefully on November 10 th , 2024. Bob was born June 24 th , 1941, in New Haven, CT, the son of Robert Barrett and Anna Barrett (McSherry).
He graduated from Hamden High School and joined the Army in 1960 and trained to be a helicopter mechanic. He worked for Union Carbide for decades, starting on the floor and eventually leading OSHA compliance, traveling to teach safety seminars to plants across the country.

Bob was a caretaker all his life, first for his mother and aunts, his siblings, then his wife, then his children, grandchildren, and even those he did not know. Over the course of his 83 years, Bob
was Santa to hundreds of children, a police officer, a community theatre star, and a political organizer. He taught classes at Hamden High School for resume and skill building and drove disabled adults to appointments – his favorite job. He spent his life serving others and finding ways to connect with people different from him.

Bob was married to the love of his life, Bette Barrett (Eaton), who he is now reunited with. He was a loving father and a doting grandfather and great grandfather. His greatest joy in life was
his family – followed closely by MSNBC.

Remaining to cherish Bob’s memory are his children, Robert Barrett and his wife Lorraine, Jennifer Paul and her husband Lenny, Dawn Luddy and her partner Bob Hyland, and Jeff Hardy and his wife Donna. He was the eldest of five, leaving behind his siblings Mary, Peggy, Tommy (Terri), and Jack (Mary). Surviving him are also his many grandchildren and their spouses, Hannah, Zachary, Lenny (Arianna), Robert, Dominic, Elizabeth, Marla (Patrick), Maggie, Emily, Abigail, John, and his great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Kaylee.

Preceding him in death are his wife, Bette, his daughter, Kathy Hardy, and his dear friend Judy Anderson.

His family thanks the team at Solstice Senior Living in Groton for giving him a wonderful home, as well as his kind caretaker Paul and amazing nurse Angela from Yale New Haven Health and Hospice for taking incredible care of him in his final months.

A celebration of life will be held at Holy Advent Episcopal Church in Clinton, CT on December 14 th , at 11:00 A.M
