It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Robert Manning Hodge, age 71, of Simsbury, Connecticut. He peacefully departed this life on the evening of Friday, September 8, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Robert was born on August 22, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Helen Elizabeth Crum Hodge and Richard Gerald Hodge. He was one of four sons, predeceased by Richard G. Hodge Jr., and survived by his brothers Thomas Hodge of Arizona and William Hodge of Alaska. Robert is survived by his previous wife of over 20 years, Nancy Jean Hodge, and their two children, Ashley Hodge, aged 39, of Simsbury, and Justin Hodge, aged 36, of New Hartford. He also held a special place in the hearts of Nancy's children, Sandra Prado and William Gimpl. Robert was the proud and doting grandfather of seven grandsons: Frank Kawa, Joshua Kawa, Nicholas Kawa, Adrian Morales, Jayvian Morales, Romeo Lopez, and finally Leo Lopez. He also leaves behind numerous loving nieces, nephews, and relatives who will miss him dearly.
For over two decades, Robert was a respected and proud merchant, running Torpedoes Smoke Shop in downtown Simsbury. His love for cigars was only surpassed by his passion for engaging conversations with the many patrons who frequented this beloved town shop. In his cherished spare time, Robert could often be found at the baseball field, a place where he shared countless memories with his grandsons while watching them play the game they loved together.
Friends and family are invited to join us in celebrating Robert's remarkable life on Friday, September 29th, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Luddy and Peterson’s Funeral Home, located at 205 S Main St., New Britain, CT 06051.
"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed, and very dear." Rest in peace, dear Robert. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
