Russell W. Spaulding Sr., 67, of Groton, passed away peacefully from a brief stent of Cancer on Friday, May 1, 2021, at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. He was surrounded by loved one’s as he transitioned over.
Russell was born on June 5,1953 in Charleston, WV. He was the son of the late Luther R. Spaulding and Marjory (DeWees) Chaney.
He attended Poca High School and participated in many extracurricular sports and activities.
Russell began working as a boilermaker in WV. which helped him secure a job at Millstone Power Plant in Waterford. He then took a job at Electric Boat/General Dynamics (E.B) as a shopfitter and a carpenter. Years later in 1996, he began working for Mohegan Sun Casino when it first opened.
He was an avid fisherman, played golf, and enjoyed working outside. You can say he was a jack of all trades. His best trait was to make people laugh, even if it was at his own expense.
He is survived by his loving long term partner Peggy D. Cooper of Groton; son, Russell W. Spaulding Jr and wife Caroline of Amston; daughter, Tracy Thaxton of Charleston WV; step-daughters, Tameasha Cooper and Maegen Cooper of Groton; sisters, Connie McCoy of St. Albans, WV, Beverly Samson of Teays Valley, WV; brother, Luther R. Spaulding II and wife Susie of Wadeworth, OH and step-brother, Greg Chaney and wife Maggie of WV. Along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances.
In addition to his parents Luther and Marjory, Russell was predeceased by his brother Thomas R. Spaulding and step-father Raymond Chaney.
Russell Wayne Spaulding Sr. will truly be missed by all those who knew him or of him. May he rest easy.
Due to the current pandemic a celebration of life will be held at a later date private to the family.
