Samuel Germano Obituary

Samuel “Sam” Germano, 97, longtime resident of Cerritos California and Kensington Connecticut passed away on May 14, 2021. 

Born in New Britain on November 29, 1923, he was the son of Lucy and John Germano.

Sam attended New Britain High School and served his country proudly as a member of the US Army. He was based in Japan during the Occupation and Reconstruction period following the war.

He was employed at various industries as a machinist. Sam loved traveling with his wife Eileen while living in California. He especially enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, UCONN Women’s Basketball, making puzzles, bowling, stock car racing, and fishing. He will be remembered for his smile and quick wit and his favorite saying, “We’ll play it by ear.”

He is survived by his two sons, Allen Germano of Kensington and David Germano of Plainville; his sister, Angeline and her husband Edward Mackiewcz of Berlin and his sister Pauline Paganetti of Newington along with many nieces and nephews. He also leaves Eileen’s sisters, Karen Ortola and her husband Fred of Kensington, Geri Curtis and Sheila Masella both from New Britain.

He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen O’Keefe, also of New Britain, his parents, his twin sister Josephine Ruggiero and her husband Jesse, his brother Thomas Germano and his wife Mary, his former wife Gilmay Dubois, the mother of his children, and his brother-in-law Lino Paganetti, along with many in-laws on Eileen’s side of the family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM on Monday May, 24, 2021 at St. Ann’s Church on 101 North Street in New Britain. He will be buried with his wife Eileen at St. Mary’s Cemetery following the Mass. There are no calling hours.
