Sheila Godino Obituary

Sheila “Rusty” Margaret Anyan Godino (1942-2024)

Sheila “Rusty” Godino, 82, of Ledyard, CT, died of natural causes on November 21, 2024 in New London, CT.

Rusty was born in Greenwich, Connecticut in 1942 to Chester and Margaret Anyan and was the oldest of four children.    She graduated from Greenwich High and attended the University of Connecticut before starting a family in Groton, Connecticut with her husband, Vincent Godino.

Rusty was active in the Ledyard Historic District Commission for 15 years and served as Chair of Ledyard’s Cemetery Committee for over 30 years.  She was passionate about the preservation of historic cemeteries and tombstones and organized Ledyard’s “Adopt-A-Cemetery” program.   She co-authored four books on Ledyard History and “Ledyard Historic Cemetery Inscriptions” which documents the inscriptions for every headstone in every Ledyard cemetery.   Rusty and Vin fostered 35 newborn babies over a 15 year period with Catholic Charities.   She was a life-long quilter, crafter, historian, and genealogist.

She is survived by Vin, her husband of 62 years, her children Trish and husband Randy, Michael and wife Colleen, Lisa, Linda, and Matthew and partner Nick, her six grandchildren Joshua, Cheryl, Nicholas, Noah, Ryan and Anthony, and her three great-grandchildren, Desiree, Colton, and Francesca and her beloved cat, Felix.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, December 14 at 11a.m. at the Ledyard Congregational Church in Ledyard Center.   All are welcome.   In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Sheila M. Godino Ledyard Cemetery Trust.    https://gofund.me/b9f5685f
