Steven Robert Rusczek Obituary

Steven Robert “Steve” Rusczek, age 60, passed away on June 29, 2026, at Hartford Hospital after a courageous battle of liver disease.

Born on December 18,1965, in Meriden, Connecticut, Steve lived a life filled with love, creativity, and dedication to his family and friends.

Steve spent 36 years as an assistant manager and bartender at the Aqua Turf Club. It was there that he honed his remarkable talent for entertaining and event planning, always the first one to offer his help with organizing family weddings, birthday parties or holidays. Steve brought joy and celebration to countless occasions. His passion for creating memorable experiences extended beyond his career and into every aspect of his life.

A man of many talents and interests, Steve found joy in gardening, cooking, baking, and canning fresh tomatoes, pickles, beets and always looking for new recipes to try and share. He had a flair for decorating extravagantly for holidays and took pride in entertaining those around him. His front porch was a cherished spot where moments of peace and connection were enjoyed. Steve also cultivated a unique collection of over 100 paperweights and end-of-day glass vases that reflected his appreciation for beauty and craftmanship.

He is survived by his father Robert Rusczek and stepmother Suzanne Rusczek of Southington, CT; Stepfather David Davey of Summerfield, FL; Sister LouAnn (Rusczek) Gwiazda and her husband Nick of New Britain, CT; Brother Kevin Rusczek of New Haven, CT

Nephew Ryan Billings; Niece Erika Savino; as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. Special recognition is given to the “special ladies” in Steve’s life: Lisa, Marie and Bernie. He was predeceased by his mother Louise (Bard) Davey of Summerfield, FL.

Steve faced a courageous four-year battle with liver disease (requiring a transplant) with strength and determination. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff who cared for him during this time – especially the liver transplant team at Hartford Hospital and Dr. Craig Bogdanski (Primary Care)– and the support group that stood by him throughout his journey.

In honor of Steve’s memory and generous spirit, donations may be made to Donate Life Connecticut at P.O. Box 304, Andover, CT 06233 or online https://www.donatelifect.org/.

Steven’s legacy of love, laughter, and hospitality will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his loss. A Service will be held on Saturday July 25,2026 at 9:00 AM at St Luke Parish St Aloysius Church 254 Burritt St. Plantsville, CT with burial to follow at St. Tomas Cemetery.
