Terry W. Schilling, 83, of Manchester, Connecticut, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on March 16, 2026, at Southington Care Center in Southington, Connecticut.
Terry was born on October 4, 1942, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, to Raymond Schilling and Bernice (Schoeffel) Schilling. He attended and graduated from Horicon High School in Horicon, Wisconsin.
He later served his country in the United States Air Force. During his time in the Air Force, while stationed at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, he played on both the base basketball and tennis teams, traveling to other countries to compete.
While stationed at Westover Air Force Base in Massachusetts, Terry met the love of his life, Kathleen. The two met at the Buffalo Club in Chicopee, Massachusetts, and later married, eventually settling in Manchester, Connecticut where they raised their family.
Terry went on to build a long and dedicated career at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, Connecticut, where he worked for more than 50 years as a Financial Analyst.
Sports were a lifelong passion for Terry. A standout athlete in his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball, golf, tennis, bowling, and softball. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Green Bay Packers, and UConn Huskies basketball. He enjoyed trips to the casino and loved sharing recipes and cooking new dishes with his nephew Scott, often while catching up together over FaceTime on his iPad. He had a well-known love for watching television, often with a game on or a favorite show, something those close to him will remember with a smile. One of his favorite things to do was drive back to his home state of Wisconsin to visit family and friends, where he felt most at home.
Family meant a great deal to Terry. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them, especially attending their sporting events and cheering them on. He truly valued the time he spent with friends at the Manchester Country Club and the Washington Social Club.
Terry is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Schilling and her partner Andy Henriques; his sons, Scott Schilling and his wife Mary, and Tim Schilling; his grandchildren, Timmy, Karl, Aris, Gracie, Andrew, Samantha, Payton, and Jackson; and his great-granddaughter, Kiara. He is also survived by his sister, Sue Williams and her husband Roger; his nephew, Scott Williams; and his niece, Amy Wolter; and so many other good friends and family members.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kathleen Schilling, as well as his parents, Raymond Schilling and Bernice (Schoeffel) Schilling.
Terry will be remembered not only for his love of sports and dedication to his family, but for the steady, genuine way he showed up for the people in his life. His presence, his pride in those he loved, and the memories he created will carry on through his family for generations to come.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the nursing staff at Southington Care Center for the genuine care, compassion, and kindness they showed Terry each day.
A private ceremony and burial will be held by the family at a later date at the Hillstown Veterans Cemetery in Manchester, Connecticut.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Terry’s name to the American Diabetes Association.
