Thomas Soule III Obituary

Thomas Leander Soule III, 68, longtime resident of Somers and Enfield, CT, peacefully left this world behind
on November 10, 2022. Tom was born to Joyce Anne (Baringer) and Thomas Leander Soule in Fort Dix, NJ on
September 28, 1954. Due to his father’s career, he was able to experience childhood climbing fruit trees in
Florida and swimming in California before settling in Enfield, CT when he was ten. After graduating from
Enfield High in 1972, Tom went to the University of Connecticut and earned a Bachelor of Science in
Engineering in 1977.
Tom married his high school sweetheart, Jane (LeRoy) in 1977. Together, they raised four children. Tom
leaves behind a large, loving, and tightknit family: Thomas IV (Buddy) and his wife Kelly, Leigh, Alexandra and
her husband Tom Ladizki, and Mallory and her husband Nick Ragion. His grandchildren were the light of his
life: Julia, Nolan, Thomas V, Lennon, Sunnie, Jack, Sam, and Ruby. He had one great-grandchild, Emma, and
another on the way. Tom is survived by his loving mother, Joyce, his brothers and sister, and their significant
others: John and Jamie Soule of Granby, CT, Matt and Laura Soule of Granby, CT, and Lucinda and Scott
Flaherty of Boca Raton, FL and Clinton, CT. He had loving nieces and a nephew, close cousins, life-long
friends, and step-grandchildren. Tom was predeceased by his father, Thomas Leander Soule.
Tom loved to take road trips in his VW bus. He would load up all his kids for trips to Englewood, FL or Big
Moose Lake, NY, where he also spent time as a child with his grandparents. He loved boating and enjoying
the waters in Waterski Alley in Florida or taking his Hobie Cat sailing in the Adirondacks. Introduced to sailing
at a young age by his father, Tom had a lifetime of experiences on the water. He was an amazing craftsman,
mechanic, and woodworker and knew how to build or fix anything. Tom was an athlete in his younger years
and played slow pitch softball in his adult years, where he earned the nickname “Spartacus”. He never missed
his children’s games and could often be seen in the outfield or in the grass on the sidelines, barefoot, with his
loyal dog and best friend, Secor, by his side. Tom was an avid UCONN basketball fan. He loved good food and
was a great cook. Sundays, when the family would get together for his homemade pasta, were his favorite
days; he always had ice cream on hand for his grandchildren. Tom had a deep passion for music. He would
talk about “feeling it in your soul” and hoped that his family and friends could also experience music and the
arts deeply.
Tom had many close friends with whom he enjoyed taking on projects or gathering over food, drinks, music,
and conversation. Tom had strong opinions, but he was a great listener. He truly enjoyed his friendships. He
was humble and full of wisdom. He always challenged people and genuinely wanted to know what the other
person thought. He grew gentler over the years and was always there for his friends and family. His loss
leaves a void which will be forever felt.
