Virginia Ruth Garrett (Goblirsch), 62, passed away peacefully just before 5:00 am on Friday, March 6, 2020 after a heartbreaking battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at Greg and Virginia’s Home at 58 Sunnyside Ave, Putnam, CT 06260 on Saturday March 14, 2020 from 1:00pm – 4:00pm.
Virginia (Ginny) was born in Cheverly, MD on March 18th, 1957. She lived most of her life with her loving husband and two daughters in Chicago, IL. Ginny co-owned a janitorial business with her husband throughout her life, but she most often would describe herself as a “domestic engineer” as she loved being a mother and a homemaker.
Ginny practiced yoga and martial art in her early teens and twenties and continued yoga all her life. After raising her two daughters, she returned to her love of fitness by joining her beloved local gym. She was devoted to her weekly spin classes, circuit training, and weight training. When she was not in the gym, you could find her walking along the streets of Andersonville, biking to her happy place in Evanston, IL. “The Shakespeare Garden”, or kayaking on the Chicago river with friends and family.
Greg and Ginny moved to Putnam, CT in 2017 to be near their daughters who had also recently relocated to the area. In 2018, her cherished granddaughter was born, and she and her husband provided loving care for the first year of her life. Living in the Quiet Corner of Connecticut, Ginny loved walking around the river near their home to visit the three white ducks and hiking at the West Thompson Dam with her daughter (and daughters bulldogs) as well as swimming laps at the YMCA.
Ginny was a deeply empathetic person and everyone from strangers to family felt safe sharing their joy and their sorrows with her. The battle with cancer slowly faded the Ginny we knew and loved to the background. In the last week of her life, she miraculously returned to her true self and was able to share love, compassion and laughter with all her friends and family, near and far. We all congratulate her on a perfect transition.
