Zita Pelletier

Zita Rioux Pelletier, age 101 of New Britain, CT; widow of Marcel Pelletier, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 19, 2022 at the Bojnowski Manor in New Britain, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.

Zita was born September 15, 1921 in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada; the beloved daughter of the late John & Marie (LaForge) Rioux.

Zita was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in New Britain. She was very involved in many religious organizations including the Ladies Guild, Catholic Council, Legion of Mary, Ladies of St. Ann, and Daughters of Isabella.

Zita had an amazing and remarkable life.  She started her nursing career in Canada in 1940 after graduating from St. Vincent de Paul Nursing School.  Many of her first patients were survivors of the Battle of Dunkirk.  She would eventually move to the U.S. and become the Supervisor of Nursing at New Britain Memorial Hospital (Hospital of Special Care). Later on in life, Zita would often volunteer with the American Red Cross. She impacted many lives during her life and will be missed deeply by all who had the honor of knowing her.

Along with her parents John & Marie, and husband, Marcel; Zita was predeceased by her son, Mark Pelletier; niece, Jeanette; and nine siblings.

Zita is survived by her: son, Lou Pelletier & daughter-in-law Linda of West Hartford; son, Paul Pelletier of New Britain; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica Julia, Justina; niece, Laurene; and a host of extended family and friends who will cherish her memory.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 195 S. Main St. New Britain, CT 06051. Interment will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Luddy-Peterson Funeral Home, 205 S.
